Chicago Tax Hike

Mayor Rahm Emanuel has proposed a $.90 per cigar tax that is currently pending in City Council. This measure is part of a larger package that also includes a provision to increase the age to purchase tobacco products from 18 to 21. On February 10, the City Council’s Finance Committee approved the measure by a 22 to 9 vote. The proposal was expected to receive a vote by the full City Council on February 10, but the vote has been delayed.
